Class Announcements Heroes UnitIn our next unit that begins this week, we will be focusing on the theme of "Heroes." Students will be talking about the heroes in their own lives, as well as heroes from history and on television. We will watch a clip from the T.V. show "Heroes" and will create our own heroes both on paper and online. Grammer lessons continue with the introduction of past participle verbs and further discussion of complete and incomplete sentences. Also, don't forget every Monday students receive a new vocabulary list with tests on Fridays.
UpdateThis week students are continuing to focus on verbs and sentence combining. However, now students are facing the more difficult task of learning the meaning of root words. For example, this week we learned that if "incredible" means "not able to be believed," then "credible" means "able to be believed" and "cred" means "to believe". These root word tasks are essential to making high schools on the ACT and are part of new English Standards handed down from the TN State Dept of Education.
Unit 13 - 2nd and 3rd Week of SchoolAfter adjusting placement of students during the first week of school, our next two weeks will focus on Unit 13 - Invent It. St. udents will receive a new vocabulary list of 15 words each Monday (tentatively) and will have spelling and/or grammar tests each Friday (once again tentatively depending on school schedule).
Students will also be studying nominative and objective pronouns, regular and progressive verb tenses, prefixes, idioms, attributes, subjects and predicates, main ideas, transition words, contractions, sentence diagramming, and syllable stresses, all in Unit 13.
